Introduction to Thread Lifts

Cosmetic Injections

The Background

As we age, our skin naturally starts to fall and sag. This happens as a result of progressive loss of collagen and elastin, two vital proteins which give our skin structure, elasticity, and firmness. Additionally, exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays and environmental damage also breaks down collagen and elastin fibers.

The Issue

The pull of gravity, combined with the loss of supporting tissues beneath the skin can cause it to droop and sag. This results in the exagerration of smile lines, jowls, marionette lines and loose skin on the neck.

The Solution

A Thread lift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves placing biodegradable threads beneath your skin to help lift and tighten the trouble areas. The threads are lined with tiny hooks that gently pull and lift your skin, creating a more defined and youthful appearance. These threads also stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential proteins that provide structure and elasticity. The increase in collagen and elastin production promotes skin rejuvenation, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.

FAQs

How is a Thread Lift procedure performed?

A Thread Lift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure using dissolvable threads to lift and tighten sagging skin. During the procedure, a doctor will carefully position and secure the threads underneath your skin.  These threads have tiny hooks that anchor the tissues in a lifted position. Over time, the threads stimulate natural collagen production, providing ongoing support and maintaining the lifted effect. The exact placement and number of threads will vary depending on the individual’s specific needs.

Does a Thread Lift alter your facial features?

Unlike traditional surgical facelifts, Thread Lift treatments do not alter your facial features or leave any visible scars. Instead, they lift targeted areas resulting in a natural-looking improvement in skin appearance. Over time, the body’s natural protein synthesis process is triggered, producing collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which further improve the skin’s texture and tone. The outcome of the Thread Lift procedure typically provides a more youthful appearance.

How long does the effect of a Thread Lift treatment last?

How long the results of a Thread Lift treatment last depends on several factors, including the type of threads used and the elasticity of the skin and tissues in the targeted area.

Who is a suitable candidate for a Thread Lift treatment?

An ideal candidate for a Thread Lift treatment is between late thirties to late fifties, displaying mild to moderate signs of skin laxity. While patients with significant skin laxity may benefit more from surgical facelifts, Thread Lifts may be a viable option for those who do not wish to undergo surgery or are ineligible for medical reasons. It is important to be assessed by an experienced professional who can explain what kind of results to expect.

When to Contact the Doctor

Follow up Appointment After Treatment

  • Wait for 24 hours before resuming exercise, especially if it’s part of your daily routine. Your doctor may suggest waiting longer as physical activity can increase blood flow, which could spread the toxin and reduce its effectiveness at the injection site.

  • Performing facial exercises like frowning, smiling, and raising your eyebrows is safe and can actually help the effects of Botox appear sooner.

  • Avoid applying makeup on your skin for at least 24 hours after Botox treatment to prevent the potential dispersal of the toxin caused by rubbing.

  • Sit upright and avoid bending or lying down for the first 4 hours after receiving Botox to minimize the spreading of the toxin and maintain its effectiveness at the injection site.

  • Consult your doctor about medications that may increase your risk of bruising and when it is safe to resume taking them.
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure on the treated area and maintain a normal heart rate to allow the Botox to settle into the muscles properly.

  • Refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours after Botox treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising.

  • Avoid skin treatments like facial massages, exfoliating scrubs, and dermal fillers for the first 24 hours as they may also reduce the effectiveness of the Botox.

  • Steer clear of sun exposure for at least 4 hours after treatment as it can cause flushing and increase blood pressure due to heat. For added caution, avoid the sun for 24 to 48 hours.

  • Try to avoid sleeping on the areas where Botox was injected to minimize physical pressure and help the toxin settle into the muscles.
